The Green Party’s co-leader has called for the Home Office to be abolished as part of a drastic overhaul of the way crime and immigration is handled in the UK.
Opening the Green Party conference in Newport, Wales, Jonathan Bartley said it was time for “a new start” and “decisive break from business as usual” in British politics.
He outlined proposals to scrap the “pernicious” Home Office to create a “fairer immigration system” and a reduced prison population in the UK.
And he said his party would want to replace by creating two new departments which would see immigration and crime overseen by separate ministers.
