Three men have been charged as part of an investigation started after migrants were rescued off the Kent coast

Three British men have been charged with assisting unlawful entry to the UK after several people were rescued off the Kent coast.

Four people who reportedly claimed to be Iraqi nationals were found aboard a fishing boat after a rescue effort was launched from Ramsgate Harbour on Thursday (August 9).

A child and a pregnant woman were among the people rescued.

A Home Office spokesman said: “Three men have been charged and remanded in custody as part of an ongoing criminal investigation”.
