A teenager accused of murdering and robbing a Syrian refugee in Belfast is facing a separate charge of possessing an indecent photograph of children.
Callin Wilson appeared back before the city’s Magistrates Court today on one count of allegedly having the image between December 2016 and June 2017.
The 19-year-old, whose address was given as Hydebank Young Offenders Centre, denies the charge.
Defence solicitor Brian Archer confirmed his client was not seeking bail.
“He’s in custody on more serious matters,” Mr Archer told the court.
The indecent image charge is not linked to allegations that Wilson carried out a fatal knife attack on Hazem Ahmed Ghreir in June last year.
Mr Ghreir, who had been in his thirties, was stabbed to death at Downshire Place, off Great Victoria Street in the city centre.
Police do not believe race was a factor and are not treating his death as a hate crime.
Earlier this year Wilson was returned for trial on charges of murder, possessing a knife in a public place and robbing Mr Ghreir of a mobile phone in connection with that incident.
But he was produced again to be formally connected to the new allegation of possessing an indecent image.
District Judge Fiona Bagnall then remanded him back into custody until his next scheduled appearance, by video-link, on May 4.
