Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program invites more skilled workers to apply

by admin

The Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program has issued 502 Letters of Advice to Apply for a provincial nomination in a new draw that took place on May 31.

The Letters of Advice to Apply (LAAs) were issued to 187 candidates under the Skilled Worker in Manitoba Stream, with the lowest ranked candidate invited at a score of 485. An additional 53 LAAs were issued under the Skilled Worker Overseas Stream’s Strategic Recruitment Initiative. The score for those candidates was 698.

An additional 262 LAAs were issued to candidates in the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program’s Skilled Worker Overseas Stream. The lowest-ranked candidate invited in this cohort was 584.

In order to be considered by the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP) for the Skilled Worker Overseas Stream, candidates submitting an Expression of Interest (EOI) must have:

  • A close relative residing in Manitoba or past education or work experience in Manitoba;
  • At least 6 months of recent experience in an occupation on Manitoba’s In-demand Occupations list; and
  • A minimum language proficiency of CLB 5 unless work experience is primarily in a regulated occupation (minimum CLB 7) or a compulsory trade (CLB 6).

Manitoba’s Strategic Recruitment Initiative includes recruitment missions, where MPNP representatives interview foreign skilled workers abroad and issue LAAs to candidates who are eligible and have made a formal EOI to the MPNP. In addition, the MPNP may invite people who have undertaken a pre-approved Exploratory Visit and passed an interview with a program official.

To learn more about Exploratory Visits, please visit the Manitoba Skilled Worker Immigration Stream page.

The MPNP conducts draws based on an Expression of Interest system wherein potential candidates submit an Expression of Interest, or EOI, to the province and their profiles are assigned a score based on the answers provided in the MPNP’s online system. The highest scoring candidates from the EOI pool receive a LAA for a provincial nomination from the Government of Manitoba.

Skilled workers in Manitoba and overseas who have received a LAA in the May 31 draw, and whose application for a provincial nomination is successful, may apply to the federal government for Canadian permanent resident status.

Submitting an EOI is a candidate’s first step to immigration to Manitoba through the MPNP.

MPNP Skilled Workers in Manitoba

Under this MPNP stream, applications are accepted from qualified foreign workers and international student graduates who are currently working in Manitoba and have been offered a permanent job by their employer in Manitoba. Skilled Workers in Manitoba are not subject to a points-based assessment to determine their eligibility (though points are assigned to the candidate once he or she enters the pool of candidates)

MPNP Skilled Workers Overseas

This MPNP stream is for qualified skilled workers who may be outside Canada but who can demonstrate a strong connection to the province and its labour market. A points-based system is used to assess candidates according to factors such as age, language proficiency, work experience, education, and adaptability.
