A fraudster who used the stolen IDs of two dead fathers to help 11 migrants get British passports and visas has been jailed for four years and nine months.

Mohammed Asif, 34, claimed the applicants were children of the two deceased Britons of Pakistani heritage as part of a scam that charged customers up to £10,000 for the service.

Asif, originally from Pakistan but living in Oldham, Greater Manchester, admitted fraud and assisting unlawful immigration at Manchester Crown Court.

He was one of 10 people convicted for their roles in the scam after a six-year Home Office investigation.

Also convicted was corrupt immigration adviser Shareen Akhtar, 41, who assisted with the applications and provided counter-signatures.

Asif, said to be the ‘driving force’ behind the scam, stole naturalisation papers and other ID documents after telling the families of the deceased men – who died in 2004 and 2006 – he was an immigration adviser.

He obtained his own British passport using the same method in 2010 and also helped four other people obtain visas supported by fake sponsors.
