“We have done nothing wrong.”

Those are the words from the boss of the ‘UK’s takeaway of the year’ Rogan Josh, following a recent immigration raid on the premises.

The Home Office confirmed officers visited the Cheltenham business on the evening of August 1.

A spokesperson said checks identified that a 40-year-old Bangladeshi man who had overstayed his visa was working there illegally.

He was transferred to immigration detention while his case is progressed.

The Winchcombe Street business was served a civil penalty referral notice warning that a financial penalty of up to £20,000 will be imposed unless the employer can demonstrate that appropriate right-to-work document checks were carried out.

Manager Josh Krori said: “Two friends of the chef were visiting.

“They were both taken away. They were not working here and were not in uniform.
