Earlier this month on October 1, it was reported that Leidos signed a ten-year contract with the UK Home Office to move the national biometrics systems used by law enforcement, immigration services, and border security from four data centers to a public cloud platform.
Under the Home Office Biometrics (HOB) Programme’s Strategic Central and Bureau Platforms project, Leidos is responsible with integrating the two existing biometric databases IABS and IDENT1 from police and immigration sources into one. The name of the provider has not been made public.
“We look forward to working with the Home Office and its partners to deliver transformation across the key components of the Home Office Biometrics transformation program,” said Tim Crofts, Leidos’ UK business development chief.
The UK government was heavily criticized for issuing its biometrics strategy almost five years too late, which is likely the reason behind its interest in digital transformation and the public cloud
