BUREAU of Immigration (BI) operatives arrested a British and an American facing sex charges in operations in Pampanga and Marikina City.
Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente on Tuesday identified the two fugitives as 68-year-old William James Neville Ireland, who is wanted in the United Kingdom for pedophilia, and 45-year-old Shane Edward Scism from New York, also a wanted sex offender.
Ireland and Scism were arrested in Lubao, Pampanga and Marikina City, respectively.
Ireland, according to Morente, is on the wanted list of the UK’s National Crime Agency for engaging in sexual acts with a child at his home in Northern Ireland in 1996. He was charged with seven counts of indecent assault of a female and two counts of gross indecency with a child.
Scism, on the other hand, failed to register as sex offender. The Correction Law of the State of New York requires sex offenders to register any change of address, internet accounts, internet profiles and status at any residence or educational institution. A warrant for his arrest was issued in the State of New York on July 30.
“We will immediately deport them, as their continued stay in the country poses a serious threat to our women and children. Both are undesirable aliens, who must be expelled from our country without delay,” Morente said.
Morente added that the two would be banned from reentering the country.
BI Intelligence Officer Bobby Raquepo said Ireland had been in the Philippines since Oct. 1, 2013. He fled the UK to evade questioning by police on a complaint of historical sexual abuse that was filed against him.
Ireland became the subject of an Interpol red notice that was issued on August 5 after British authorities found that he fled to the Philippines.
Meanwhile, Scism arrived in December 2017.
“He seems to have planned to relocate in the country for good in an effort to escape his liabilities in his country,” said Raquepo.
Both men are being held at the BI’s detention center in Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig City.
