A Brexit Party MEP has received “racist” comments after he expressed support for a refugee charity, it has emerged.
Henrik Overgaard Nielson said he was supporting the efforts of Green Party MEP Majid Majid by calling on people to donate to Refugee Rescue, which works in the Mediterranean.
However, his tweet was met with “racist” comments from Brexit Party supporters, who disagreed with his support for fleeing asylum seekers.

In response, Nielsen condemned these individuals for racism, and said they had “no place” in the Brexit Party:

But given that Scram has uncovered multiple Brexit Party MP candidates who have shared Islamophobia online, Nielsen’s assertion that the party has “no space for discrimination or abuse” does not seem to ring true.
It’s clear the Brexit Party needs to urgently examine the discourse it is legitimising among its fan base and representatives.
